• Phonemic awareness

Our focus is on building confidence and enjoyment in reading, helping children immerse themselves in stories while naturally strengthening the skills that support growing readers.

Who can I contact with questions?

We are happy to help! Please contact us through the email at literacylighthousecamp@gmail.com and we will respond as soon as possible.

Is this camp appropriate for struggling readers?

Yes. Literacy Lighthouse is designed to support children at a range of early reading stages, including those who may be feeling frustrated or lacking confidence with reading. Our small-group approach allows us to meet children where they are and provide supportive, engaging instruction that builds both skills and confidence.

How is this camp different from tutoring?

While tutoring often focuses on one-on-one instruction, Literacy Lighthouse blends structured literacy activities with the fun and energy of a summer camp environment. Children learn through stories, games, hands-on activities, and collaboration with peers, making literacy feel joyful rather than stressful. Our goal is to strengthen reading skills while helping children develop a positive relationship with learning and literature.

My child already enjoys reading. Is this camp still a good fit?

Campers who already enjoy reading benefit from opportunities to deepen comprehension, explore storytelling, and build vocabulary while connecting with peers who also love books. Our activities encourage creativity, curiosity, and a love of learning.

Will my child improve their reading this summer?

Our goal is to help every camper grow in confidence and strengthen foundational literacy skills. Through small-group instruction, engaging activities, and enrichment support, children practice essential skills such as phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. While every child’s growth is unique, many campers leave with increased confidence, stronger reading strategies, and a renewed excitement for books.

Will my child be grouped by reading level?

We gather information about each child’s reading experience during registration so we can create small groups that allow children to feel comfortable and supported. Activities are designed to be flexible so all campers can participate at their level.

Why is summer literacy important?

Research shows that many children experience “summer slide,” where reading skills can decline when they are not practiced regularly. Engaging in literacy activities during the summer helps children maintain and build upon the progress they made during the school year. Literacy Lighthouse provides a fun, low-pressure environment where children can continue practicing reading skills while enjoying stories, games, and creative activities.
